How Does Temperature Affect Enclosure Geometry

​​Thermal extremes dramatically alter material behavior. An enclosure in direct sunlight can exceed 85°C (185°F). If internal components generate heat, the CAD geometry must integrate heat sinks or ventilation to act as a thermal management system. Additionally, mating dissimilar materials (like aluminum to thermoplastic) requires designing for the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE); without proper tolerances, fluctuating temperatures will warp the enclosure and break the environmental seal.

What Geometry is Required for IP67 and IP68 Sealing

​Achieving high-level Ingress Protection (IP) against water and dust requires more than a flat surface and silicone. IP67 and IP68 ratings demand engineered gasket channels—such as tongue-and-groove or labyrinth joints—designed to compress an O-ring to a precise volume. During injection molding, parting lines must be placed away from these sealing surfaces to prevent flash or sink marks from defeating the gasket.
